The Tag-Along 《红衣小女孩》 Movie Review

Based on true event happening in year 1998 and 2014 in Taiwan where the mysterious little girl in red has been one of the most talked about among the Taiwanese people for more than 20 years. Director’s Wei-Hao has put up the true event onto the big screen, conceptualizing the idea of love, nightmare, illusion, reality and fear to sum up the story of the little red girl.

When you disappear for no reason, this makes you curious to find out the truth. The Tag-Along contains its origin story line and gives audiences a narrow escape climax but it is a straightforward and predictable horror- thriller film. However, the twists of the film plot happening on the little girl in red that will surprise you in a stun second. I rate The Tag-Along movie: 2.5/5 star. The Tag-Along movie is now officially release in Singapore at Golden Village Cinema Theatres.

The Tag-Along 《红衣小女孩》 Movie Synopsis:
Wei’s grandma suddenly disappears for no reason, but strangely the routines still move on as if she never vanished-- the laundry is still done, their house is well-arranged as usual, and even breakfast remains prepared for Wei every morning. Distraught with worry, Wei is totally clueless until he finds an uncanny video in his grandma’s camera, showing that there was a little girl in red tagging along her. Oddly enough, after Wei’s grandma finally returns, it turns out that Wei is missing instead. Struggling to unravel the enigma, Wei’s girlfriend Yi-Chun gradually discovers that the mysteries behind Wei and his grandma’s sudden disappearance may be connected to the urban legend of “The Little Girl in Red”, but what’s even worse is yet to come……

Top 10 All-Time Favourite Chinese New Year Goodies

Woot! Chinese New Year just looming round the corner, are you busy buying all the CNY Goodies? Stay calm as we bring you the list of 10 recommended CNY goodies to choose from!

1. Bak Kwa
What is Chinese New Year without Bak Kwa (barbecued pork jerky). Savoury and decadent, once you start, it’s almost too hard to stop. In Cantonese, bak kwa is “long yoke”, which means having a robust fortune ahead. Some recommended bak kwa stall to buy everyone favorites! Kim Joo Guan, Bee Cheng Hiang, Lim Chee Guan, and Kim Hwa Guan. This four Bak Kwa brand all can are located around Chinatown.

2. Pineapple Tart
With Chinese New Year just round the corner, you can find pineapple tarts just about everywhere and every bakery that churns them out is claiming that its tarts are the best. A good pineapple tart should have the perfect balance of buttery crumbly pastry and a sweet yet tangy pineapple jam. Good pineapple tarts are hard to come by, i will be recommending some pineapple tart stall to choose from, Le Café Confectionery & Pastry, Bengawan Solo, and BAKERZIN.

3. Love Letters
What a curious name! Love letters are tubes of eggy goodness that crumble into your mouth (and all over your lap) with each bite. Because of their feather-light texture, they’re easily consumed in the dozens. Be Careful, it may be very addictive!!

4. Melon Seeds
It’s believed that eating plenty of melon seeds is good for your ancestral and financial outlook. Of course, some of your family members just enjoy munching on them because they’re just plain tasty and don’t make it tougher to talk.

5. Peanuts
One of the adult/old people favourites, as they can enjoy peeling and enjoying munching on them when they chit-chatting. Some of them will even go it with beer!

6. Taiwan Jelly
If you walk down the Chinatown street bazaar, it won’t be too exaggerating to say that 30% of the stalls are selling some Taiwan goodie, such as Mochi, fruit jelly, pineapple tarts, peanuts and anchovies. The flavours are aplenty. You can get Taiwan jellies from mango, lychee, and strawberry, green apple to lychee, green tea and black sugar. They make the otherwise boring and predictable new year goodies different. The packaging is all so pretty and cute, each item individually wrapped in colourful paper. Definitely will attract the kids attention!

7. Prosperity Sweets
All time kid’s favourites! The prosperity sweets came with attractive colorful paper that sure will get the kids attention and is the only way to let the kids be obedient!

8. Dried Fruit
Dried fruit is fruit from which the majority of the original water content has been removed either naturally, through sun drying, or through the use of specialized dryers or dehydrators. Eating dried fruit is associated with improved health and provides many of the essential minerals, vitamins, phytonutrients and fiber that you need every day. Dried fruit doesn't spoil as quickly and is an easy snack to pack, especially for activities like hiking! But keep in mind that dried fruits are higher in calories because they are more concentrated once the water has been removed

9. Waxed Sausages
Waxed sausages known as Lap Cheong. It’s a much loved feature on the domestic New Year tables. There's no wax involved in their preparation of this Chinese charcuterie, rather the term refers to their appearance. They are steamed and all the fats that exude in the process are carefully reserved to be mixed with steamed rice. Larp mei farn (savoury rice with waxed meats) will not do anything for your arteries but it is a total joy to eat, incredibly fragrant, rich and savoury!

10. Colorful Cookies
Traditional cookies are good but why not go for colorful cookies that will attract people attention and they might snack it! Most of the time, when people house visiting, they will tend to not eat the cookie as they will prefer pineapple tarts or bak kwa etc. A colorful cookie might get their attention to give it a try.

The above-mentioned goodies are high in calories, they should be consumed in moderation as to prevent gaining much weight! I hope you have found this splendid compilation useful for your festive shopping. May you enjoy good fortune and an abundance of wealth for the Lunar New Year!

Welcome the Year of Monkey with Xin Cuisine Chinese Restaurant

Stepping into the blonde and gold-colored premises of Xin Cuisine is like taking a retro step back into Chinese restaurants of two decades ago. Xin Cuisine Chinese restaurant focuses on artfully presented reliable Cantonese fare; contemporary and explorative in presentation but without straying too far from tradition.

Let the the head of the Xin Cuisine Chinese kitchen Executive Chef Eric Chan bring you an authentic Cantonese dining experience amidst elegant interiors .

Yu Sheng - The first thing that 'wow'-ed me was the huge Monkey designed, Yu Sheng with salmon, Bamboo clam and Champagne dressing. Just take a look at that, doesn't it look so beautiful?

Some tips when “Lou Hei”
If you are wondering what to say duringLou Hei”, here’s a simple guide for you.
  1. At the table: Wishing everyone a prosperous CNY!
  2. Raw Fish: Nian Nian You Yu(年年有余)
  3. Pomelo: Da Ji Da Li(大吉大利)
  4. Red Ginger: Hong Yun Dang Dou (鸿运当头)
  5. Green Radish: Qing Chun Chang Zhu(青春常驻)
  6. Cinnamon & Pepper: Zhao Cai Jin Bao(招财进宝)
  7. Sesame seeds: Sheng Yi Xing Long(生意兴隆)
  8. Oil: Cai Yuan Guang Jin (财源广进)
  9. Plum Sauce: Tian Tian Mi Mi(甜甜蜜蜜)
  10. Pok Chui Crackers: Bian Di Huang Jin(遍地黄金)

Festive Dim Sum - Steamed Xiao Long Bao with Crab Meat. Pan-fried Yam and pumpkin cake. Steamed seafood Dumpling with Cordyceps. Deep-fried Mussel stuffed with shrimp paste.

Xin’s Traditional Pen Cai – The CNY classic dish, the “Pen Cai”. During Chinese New Year, this extravagant pot is filled up with premium seafood such as the whole abalone, premium sea cucumber, conpoy, sea prawns, dried oysters and fish maw, together with other must-haves like mushroom, radish, roasted pork and roasted duck etc. The portion was also very generous as portrayed above.

Braised Vermicelli with Crab, Ginger, and onion - My Personal Favourite, the vermicelli has absorbed all the favors from the Crab, Ginger and Onion. It was flavorful but not overpowering! The crab was braised still flavorful and and soft. I can easily peel off the shell and consume the flavorful meat.

Wok-fried Glutinous Rice with Preserved Meat - Last but not least, a huge serving of wok-fried Glutinous Rice with Preserved Meat to conclude the meal. Very tasty. It made an enjoyable combination with the rice and sausages, and a very enjoyable sharing portion round the table.

Xin’s Traditional Nian Gao, Double-boiled snow pear with osmanthus and snow fungus - Wrapping up the dinner is the double-boiled snow pear with osmanthus and snow fungus along with the Nian Gao on the side. It is a refreshing dessert to end the sumptuous dinner.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole Chinese New Year 2016 menu food tasting experience at Xin Cuisine Chinese Restaurant because of its flavorful traditional chinese dishes & the delicacy in details they have placed into every dish to make them look as appealing as they tasted.
